Lux escapes don’t get much more private or extravagant than the seriously swanky Lake Kora, recent recipient of the World Travel Awards’ title “North America’s Leading Exclusive Retreat” for the third year running. Nestled deep in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, the century old ‘Great Camp’, and US sibling of the Banks Peninsula-based Annandale Coastal Farm Escape & Luxury Villa Collection is a fairytale forest villa set among 1,000-acres of private wilderness, with three lakes and exquisite, rustic lux accommodations for up to 22 guests.
Open July through October, its rental rates are all-inclusive of staff, meals and activities on the property (though you do have to rent the entire camp!). Lakeside respites include taking out the property’s original wooden canoes, as well as kayaks, fishing and a speedboat for water skiing and tubing. Over at the Playhouse you’ll discover a games room, wood-panelled bar, spa – even an old school two-lane bowling alley that’s as old as the Camp. Walks abound through the private woods, with a tennis court and baseball field (famously used for training by the New York Yankees!) also on offer.
